Two baked apple halves with an oat filling in a small baking dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 small mild apples
  • 35 g fine rolled oats
  • 1 tsp rapeseed oil or butter
  • 1 tsp acacia honey
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 60 ml water

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Peel, halve and core the apples.
  2. Mix the oats with the oil or butter, honey and cinnamon.
  3. Place the apple halves in a small dish, fill them and add the water.
  4. Bake for about 25 minutes until soft. Serve lukewarm.

Why this recipe is gentle

Baking softens the apple so it is easier to handle than raw fruit, and the recipe stays low-fat with just a teaspoon of oil or butter. There is no chocolate, citrus or heavy cream, only mild oats and a small amount of honey.

General information, not medical advice or a treatment claim. Reactions are individual. If heartburn or reflux is frequent, severe or persistent, see a doctor.

Tips

  • Swap the apple for a ripe pear or banana during more sensitive stretches.
  • Use only a pinch of cinnamon, or skip it, if it tends to be a trigger for you.
  • Let the baked apple cool to lukewarm before eating rather than serving it piping hot.
