Bowl of warm oatmeal topped with soft diced apple and a dusting of cinnamon.

Ingredients

  • 80 g fine rolled oats
  • 220 ml oat drink or lactose-free milk
  • 1 small mild apple, peeled
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 1 tsp chia seeds

Method

  1. Mix the oats, milk or oat drink and optional chia seeds the night before.
  2. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  3. Dice the peeled apple and soften it with two tablespoons of water.
  4. Warm the oats gently in a saucepan, fold in the apple and finish with a little cinnamon.

Why this recipe is gentle

The apple is peeled and briefly cooked, which softens it and takes off some of its bite compared with raw fruit. Oats and a little chia bring soluble fiber without added fat or spice, and there is no citrus, onion or garlic here.

General information, not medical advice or a treatment claim. Reactions are individual. If heartburn or reflux is frequent, severe or persistent, see a doctor.

Tips

  • Peel and cook the apple rather than using it raw, since the skin and raw flesh are harder to digest.
  • Keep the cinnamon to a pinch, or leave it out entirely if it tends to bother you.
  • Warm the oats through gently instead of serving them fridge-cold.
